WHY TOO MANY DEAF PEOPLE BROUGHT SERVICE DOGS TO NIGHTCLUBS, BARS, BOWLING ALLEYS EVER BRING THEM TO GALLAUDET DORMS TO LIVE WITH THEM?

Too many deaf people rolled their eyes whenever someone deaf brought the service dog "hearing dog" into the bar for the Deaf Professional Happy Hour (DPHH) or bowling alley or nightclub, etc which have done nothing to ensure the real necessity of service dog.

Someone deaf brought the service dog into the bar with heavy cigarette presence! Ever some deaf people brought that dog to the nightclub with VERY LOUD MUSIC which rattle dogs' very sensitive hearing capability, etc. Ever the nightclub attendees keep stomping on poor service dog within the dark environment. The owner of that hearing dog kept dismissed many deaf people's objections and concerns.

More and more Gallaudet students brought their so-called service dogs into the main campus in Washington, DC and left them all days in the dormitory settings while they attended classes.

Why in the world for Gallaudet students bring the service dogs to the Gallaudet campus with
every means of accommodations and accessibility being available to students?

Ever the service dogs at Gallaudet University get their own campus I.D. with pictures!

Too many deaf people surely abuse the real intentions of ADA laws for service dogs at appropriate necessity for having their services to assist deaf individuals.

  1. It isn't our place to judge others for their accommodations. Have you ever had anyone deny your request for an interpreter because it isn't "necessary"? Same thing.

  2. Mason, it's not a right for a student to have to bring their own service dog to GU, just because they're attending a deaf college. It's just not ethically right.
But one of the biggest concerns, and I say this as a manager of athletics, is when I watch these owners allow their dogs to run all over the football field, soccer field, and baseball field. We have tried telling these owners NOT to allow their dogs on that field and to pick up after their dogs!
Every time we see or get told someone's on the field with thier dog, we try to intercept them. Most times they're gone by the time we get there. Then it's costs time and money to make sure no dog waste is on the field and that the field is safe to play for everyone in sports.
PLEASE PET OWNERS! TAKE YOUR DAMN DOG ELSE WHERE BEFORE WE DEMAND WE BAN THEM FROM GALLAUDET!! DON'T LET THEM ON OUR FIELD! WE PLAY THERE DAILY!! AND WE COULD BE SUED!

  3. Actually, Anonymous#2, banning dogs won't do any good. Gallaudet isn't able to prohibit service dogs because the law doesn't permit the prohibition of them. If I recall correctly, there's no clause in the law permitting a place to prohibit a dog due to adequate accommodations already being provided. So Gallaudet's hands are pretty much tied in this case. Gallaudet's only option is to petition Congress to amend the law to provide a clause permitting places to prohibit service animals if certified adequate accommodations are provided to compensate for the prohibition.

  4. I am deaf myself. I used to have a service dog and am in the search for a new one. I have to agree, and wonder why deaf people would bring a service dog to a Deaf Campus such as Gallaudet when its all accomadating to the deaf themselves. I often tend to be careful on where I bring my dog. I don't bring my service dog to bars, or clubs. To painful on the dog themselves. Bowling lanes, why not? They can go under chairs and just stay there. Doctors office...I have actually been chased OUT of doctors office because of mys ervice dogs, Their reasoning being? People may be allergic to dogs, and this is a doctor's office. Of course they ignore ALL of the ADA laws and whatnot. They have often gotten in trouble with ADA and they STILL kick me out. SO I have learned to go without my dog. Now I am in an apartment that allows dogs, BUT the limit is 15 lbs or less. They don't care if the service animal which bylaw can be ANY size.....if I get a bigger dog I can get evicted. Of course what they don't realize is....I'd be fighting with ADA to not get evicted because a small dog cannot help me with support and stability and balance. A larger dog can do that. Yes I am deaf, but I have piss poor balance, and fall alot. So I always need a larger dog to help balance me or help me up if I fall. If I try with small dog, I can break its back, LOL!!!!
