Our Own DeafCorps??

I thought about the creation of "DeafCorp", an offspring of the AmeriCorps all-volunteer program with paid staff pretty long time ago during the "Unity for Gallaudet" protest.

Why not we mobilize for the share of the AmeriCorps financial pie to help deaf people within our own communities?

The U.S. Congress recently passed the bill to expand the AmeriCorps program -

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090331/ap_on_go_co/national_service

We could do many productive and long-term benefit things for our own deaf communities through the subsidiary program of the AmeriCorps. What about sending volunteers to keep the
South Dakota School for the Deaf all open with qualified in-training college students and retired deaf volunteers - former educators, etc.

Yes, Deaf America is in the real emergency of crises right now.

Does the CDC Promote Harmful Pathological Views of Us, Deaf People?

To answer this question above the title of blog posting - DEFINITELY YES!

I hardly bother to check out various online government websites, especially the Center for Disease Control (CDC) official website.

See for yourselves! Here are several attachments -

http://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/dd/hi4.htm

How interesting for the CDC define us, deaf people as
"development disabilities"!

The CDC and other government agencies need to see that culturally deaf
people do not cost very much as assecorizing deaf babies and youngsters
with very limited capabilities and costly devices and speech therapies. Pure AUDISM on the part of the Center for Disease Control and other government agencies like National Center on Deafness (NCD). Remember that the use of sign language and American Sign Language and other sign languages around the world are free and very convenient and fully accessible as compared to the over dependency on artificial means to mimic like a parrot in the cage.

http://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/ehdi/default.htm

How interesting within the quote from parent of deaf child -
Check out that quote from the link above!

Did you see that several references to parents of deaf newborn baby and
child - Urge them for getting the medical intervention.

Is our own national government promote human perfectionism and linguicism?
Definitely the sure thing!

Everyone Surely Have Hir Own Bias No Matter How Much We Deny Them!

From Amy Cohen Efron's recent blog - "Sniff Testing" of any websites whether they provide deceptive information or not.

No matter how much every of us could deny of being biased in any way. That is in our own human nature.

I kinda admire the "Hands and Voices" people for being the truth seekers on the methodology and accomodation for deaf youngsters. At least, they should say "To our own best judgment to determine which website are pretty accurate or fair" Instead of claiming "Not biased in any way".

Here are endless lists of scientific and sociological researchs about our own human bias -

http://www.nickbostrom.com/ethics/statusquo.pdf

http://www.citeulike.org/user/xaa3goatcji/article/1984312

http://www.slate.com/discuss/forums/thread/1429727.aspx
I am kinda puzzled why the "Hands and Voice" enclose the Center for Disease Control as one of its benefactors and generous donors.

Don't the "Hands and Voice" website realize that anyone being deaf is not the public health issue?

Why pathologize the deaf people in such manners? The Hands and Voice people needs to realize that we, deaf people are simply the cultural and linguistic minority which have nothing to do with being healthy or not. :)

You could see that everyone and I have our own bias :) I dearly love Amy Cohen Efron and always enjoy her blog postings. Am I shown any bias?? Aye!!! At least, I am very human. I am no Spock of the original Star Trek. :)

Will the AFA Rally Next April 3rd Truly Effective or What?

When I seen the original e-announcement from the Audism Free America via blog posting last month ago (February 2009). My first reaction - "Will this kind of rally being truly effective or make any real impact in the heart of Georgetown residential area?" "Will the mainstream media come down to cover the real peaceful deaf rally outside the Volta Bureau, home office of the AGBell?"

Time comes, I begun to see the full picture of what the AFA people tried to accomplish on the issue and awareness of existing audism within the Alexander Graham Bell Association of the Deaf's past actions.

Yes, the Volta Bureau is in the very heart of Georgetown residential area zigzag across from the Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School (Christian school) where many VIPs (Very Important People like the U.S. Congress and major corporations) often send their own children to this private school.

The Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School will have its own musical play on that Friday and Saturday night - pretty busy for quiet Georgetown Friday night!

Georgetown University is five to ten blocks away from the Volta Bureau (AGBell home office).

The very public area is the M Street down from the Volta Bureau, then the Wisconsin Avenue, Northwest on the east side three blocks away.

Many historical significant homes like President John F. Kennedy's Georgetown home few blocks away from the Volta Bureau. Two Alexander Graham Bell houses are in the Yellow Business District area between Dupont Circle and Farragut North.

Back to the questions of whether the AFA rally will be truly effective or not.

From my observations of what the AFA people have been doing lately - pretty effective and practical and determined and passionate.

That is very real historic and lifetime event for many of us, deaf people! We finally get ourselves coming together to conduct the peaceful rally (demonstration) and vigil facing the Alexander Graham Bell Association of the Deaf's Volta Bureau. It never have been done before!

What about the mainstream media coverage??? I am fully sure that there will be the presence of mainstream media covering the AFA rally. Why??? This rally is in DC at that time! Much easier for the mainstream media outlets coming to the Georgetown area since many television stations are located in the Upper Northwest area - north of Wisconsin Avenue. The Washington Post news reporting offices are on the 15th Street, NW.

The Georgetown community in DC is very small and tight-knit which will inflames gossips among its residents of what is going on with the AGBell's stealthy tasks with deaf people. The AGBell do recognize the possible severity of the impact from the AFA rally.

I am giving the AFA people and rally the benefit of doubt. It is sure enough as time progress as the sense of worthy cause deserves our full support, presence (bodies) and financial donations.

Not only the major event in Deaf Washington (DC). There are worthy deaf events like the memorial service for Dr. Mike Kemp and his legacy to the study of various deaf regional languages around the world, the Chapter Day Awards in honor of Dr. Paddy, an author of "DeafHood - Search for Identity", the Audism Free America rally before the AGBell and Deaf Professional Happy Hour (pure social time!) that weekend.

At least, the AGBell will have a meeting with the AFA people is the first step to productive and fruitful collaboration for the long-term strategy concerned deaf babies and youngsters for the real needs of language and intellectual development. That is pretty effective of the AFA rally so far. Or our eyes pulled with wool by the AGBell. Who knows?

The whole world is watching this AFA rally. Every of you, too.

Audism Free America's Three (3) Requests Very Reasonable and Logical

Not comprehend (understand) why some deaf vloggers and bloggers dissed (criticize) the Audism Free America (AFA)'s three demands to be discussed at the table with the Alexander Graham Bell Association of the Deaf (AGBell) next April 3rd (2009).

Every organization or protestor usually lay several layouts of demands and issues to be work and iron out for the bargaining table or create dialogues within involved parties. That doesn't meant anything happened for sure.

I am giving all my 100% support to the Audism Free America with no questions asked. Not everyone being perfect anyway. No one could be 100 % satisifed.

My personal opinion of the AFA being too moderate and pragmatic without being more radical approach.

If I were within the similar organization. I would call for the distruption of AGBell fundraising parties and other more radical approaches.

AFA is very reasonable and legitimate organization as I could see.

Create Our Own "Audism Monologues" Skits/Play

The 8-days countdown to the "Audism-Free America" (AFA) mass protest against the Alexander Graham Bell Association of the Deaf (AGBell or AGBAD)'s Volta Bureau building in Washington, DC next April 3rd, 2009.

Why not create our own "Audism Monologues" skits and plays within the solidarity affiliations for the "Audism Free America"'s DC protest in our own local areas to educate the general public about the evils of audism.

From viewing the original "Audism Monologues" play directed by Alison Aubrecht and produced by the LightKitchen at the Gallery 5 of the Eastern Market building few blocks from the U.S. Capitol last November 22, 2o09. This play left me pretty inspired and satisfying how true about the existence of audism within the dominant society at large. Real powerful and unforgettable play. Wanna see it again and again and again! You will, too!

Here are several video clips from the Audism.TV and take a look and get some ideas what many of you could do in your own local area -

http://www.mefeedia.com/feeds/25619/audism-television and ENJOY!

We really could do the fundraising within our "Audism Monologues" skits and plays from our own personal experience as deaf person within the audist society and send $$ to the Deaf Bilingual Coalition (DBC) to fight off the seeping practices of audism among some deaf "Uncle Tom" people and ignorant hearing populace.

Is The Name of "Center for Hearing and Communication" Smack of Audism or What?

After seeing the announcement paper titled "Center for Hearing and Communication" as part of name change from the League for the Hard of Hearing (LHH) non-profit organization of the deaf just yesterday (Monday, March 23rd). The new organizational identity name seems smacks of institutional audism (AUDISM).

Don't you agree? Why can't this non-profit organization of the deaf simply call itself "Deaf/HH Center of NYC, ......) ". If any parents of deaf youngster or anyone deaf are looking for particular assistance or videophone distribution, etc. No one would be able to find the Center for Hearing and Communication right away after seeking for the organization serving deaf individuals, youngsters and parents of deaf children.

This center also proudly claim that they do offer the UNbiased audiological testings and advice. How they could be fully sure of providing the unbiased audiological testings?? Let's see and wait!

In the countdown to "Audism-Free America" Awareness on April 3rd, we ought to email the League for the Hard of Hearing (LHH) in New York City and other cities to re-consider the name change of this organization to more approriate and acceptable name like "Deaf/HOH Centre".

We have to roll up our sleeves and participate in the upcoming "Audism Free America" Awareness across the entire country and around the world to promote the dismantling of institutional audism within the American society at large.

Here is the email address of the League for the Hard of Hearing (LHH) - www.nyc@cityhall.nyc.gov

or send the snail mail - League of the Hard of Hearing
50 Broadway #6
New York City, New York

Please do not send any nasty or abusive email messages to the LHH. Just write a constructive email message if you strongly feel that the LHH/Center for Hearing and Communication lend such a pathological attitude toward deaf people in general and give the parents of deaf youngsters some misconceptions of what and who deaf people are all about. Thanks in advance.

Alfred Hitchcock Quoted "Deaf and Dumb" Language

Off the last page of March 2009 edition of "Total Film" British film magazine devoted to the American cinema - Page 154.

The legendary British film director, Alfred Hitchcock admitted that he was going to film the scene with himself signing "deaf and dumb" language real fast for "Sabetour" 1942 Universal film, but never filmed at all . The goal of luring the actress on the scene slapped him pretty hard for that scene. It never happened at all.

That comes from the 1961 interview as Hitchcock revealed the tibidit himself.

Questions arisen about whether Hitchcock was going to sign British Sign Language (BSL) or just sloppy signing or American Sign Language (ASL). Or Hitchcock had been interacted with deaf Britons/Americans to raise his personal piquity in the use of "deaf and dumb" language.

Very typical of British people use "deaf and dumb" phrase which have nothing to do with mockery or offensive mode toward deaf people. In their British modes, they meant "deaf and mute" term originally used in America for culturally deaf people use sign language with their mouth shut.

Open Message to ASLforLife and Missouri VR

    For your information, ASLforLife.

There is the official "independent" agency in fighting any VR decisions on the behalf of Vocational Rehabilitation  (VR) clients - Missouri Protection & Advocacy Services - www.moadvocacy.org

The U.S. Congress passed several incentives since the 1970s til recent 1998 to assist any VR clients if they have any problems with their own VR agencies from the PADD to Client Assistance Program well-known as the CAP and PAIR.

This CAP attorney will represent the VR client why he or she should get that kind of assistance within the VR agency.

I once asked for the CAP attorney to help me fighting the DC VR for denying me the VR assistance to be the new client. I was told that I was not qualified at all. What??? I finally got the DC VR to pay for my Gallaudet University tuition back in the 1990s. :)

I am truly sorry for not able to leave any video comment(s) on your vlog site.

Please check out the enclosed link - www.moadvocacy.org for contacting someone in Jefferson City, MO. Okay? I also want to know the progress on that deaf couple's deaf son's VR case, please. Thanks.  Deal???

Did you know that I used to be employed with the Office of Honorable Kit Bond, U.S. Senate in Washington, DC back in the 1990s, ASLforLife?
