AFA Ought to Do the Images Awards Like GLADD and NACP

The Audism Free Audism (AFA) ought to do the annual "images" awards like the Gay and Lebasian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) - http://www.glaad.org/ and National Association of Colored People (NACP) - http://http://www.naacpimageawards.net/ in timely manner to boost the reputation and visibility of this newly-formed grassroot activism organization of the deaf promoting the real and definite images of deaf people without being dragged in pathological attitudes.

The National Association of Colored People (NACP) already done its 40th years of giving the images awards to the Hollywood filmaking and television and music industry for the decent and impressive and realistic portrayals of black people in general.

Same thing with the Gay, Lebasian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) for its very recent 20th years of giving awards to the very same creative community at large for delivering the realistic and fair images of the sexual minority on the silver screens, TV sets and human ears.

The Audistic Free America (AFA) could boost its financial bottom-line in raking the real money, financial donations from hosting the very first Deaf Image Definition awards to the creative community outside the Deaf America. The AFA could affront the Alexander Graham Bell Association of the Deaf in the image-making outreach efforts and diminish the AGBell's dominance over the medical industry and the general public.

The GLADD recently got $300,000 Strategic Software grant from the Microsoft. Inc. The NACP surely received millions and millions from other generous financial donors in fighting for the rational images of African Americans before the eyes of the Americans and the rest of the world.

The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) should done the "images" awards pretty long time ago to increase the familiarity and visibility of deaf people in non-pathological manner. It didn't!

The creative community at large, always love of receiving awards to acknowledge the public appreciation of their hard works and dedications to make the real difference in people's lives.

  1. An EXCELLENT idea, RLM! Raise visibility, raise awareness, and promote positive attention to people and groups that endorse and demonstrate the ideals of being audism-free!

  4. Why not do award for gay deaf person? Then I win it! That will show hearing they can’t discriminate against deaf like they always do! We need to raise visibility, raise awareness, and promote positive attention to people and groups that endorse and demonstrate the ideals to stop hearing discriminating and making us have CI because hearing always do things to discriminate! I can’t text while driving now because of hearing make laws to discriminate against deaf then they show commercials on TV that show people crashing while texting to make deaf people look bad.

  5. Patti,

That would be up to the AFA awards committee or its member to recognize particular filmaker or performer for their realistic and acceptable portayal of deaf individuals on the image of silver screen or tv set.

Y could be part of that committee and meet some celebrities. :)

  6. Grant,

You could be the one, who win the AFA image awards. Who knows?

I am for the existing and future laws to ban anyone from texting or calling during the auto driving.

People needs to understand that the auto driving is a real privilege, not the "right".

Too many people put makeup on and other things and do not pay attention to the road.

I was struck by the jeep last two years because the 19 years old guy did not pay attention to the road and chatted on his cell phone.

I carried grocery bags at that time. Too late for avoiding the jeep.

I spent one month in hosptial and 2 and half months in nursing home.

I had a major surgery on damaged knee and broken femur bone. The doctors put the metal rod and metal knee cap on me.

I could not run or walk faster as I always do.

My right leg is little shorter than left leg. That is so unfair for someone not paying any attention to the road while driving.

People needs to realize that they are driving the 3,000 to 5,00o to 7,000 to 10,000 pound of metal against human bodies up to 300 pounds with the higher auto speed made real impact tripled up to 30,000 to 200,000 pounds hit the human body.

Wish you all the best for your future AFA awards as a gay performer.

The human sexuality do not matter at all. :)

  7. but it not fair that hearing get to wear that thing on their ear and still talk when deaf cannot do that! you see they talk about it at the other deaf sites around! no text and the advert discriminate against deaf people. we have to stand up against this and that bloke was chatted on his phone not text and that is not deaf fault

  8. RLM,

You say award can be for ‘filmmaker or performer for their realistic and acceptable portrayal of deaf individuals’? Does it add as well a deaf person who makes films but just make movie and not put forward on deaf issue? I know of deaf filmmaker woman who is criticised or audism by deaf at her for just making normal film but I feel she deserve of award as she just get on with making movie and show hearing that deaf can do what hearing do as good as hearing and that is big help to deaf issue as opposed to make film that say deaf issue all on it and which I worrying will only seen by mostly of deaf people.

And Grant, law is make to safety of all people, deaf, hearing, children, adult, blind etc. I not want to be hit by car so you have text while drive and I think it is selfish of you to think you can do unsafe thing on road. Safety come before it all. No one ban text and laugh to self thinking it affect deaf at all. And as for Bluetooth on ear if it make people crash it should be stopped of using it but otherwise it simple as hearing just hearing things and deaf simply not. That not discriminated. If you so worry on discriminate maybe you should not drive as blind person is not allowed to drive so you have to be fair on them.

Have to ask how you get text discriminate issue when post of award idea? Is there award for doing that you want?
